CrossFit Seminar Review

On the 10th and 11th of November the first ever Australian CrossFit seminar was held at Olympic park in Sydney.

The seminar kicked off with a few hours of theory on Saturday afternoon and a quick blast of Tabata squats to introduce seminar participants to the CrossFit method but really Saturday was the entrée to Sunday’s main course.

Starting early on Sunday morning the seminar got into full swing with 23 participants and 5 instructors getting down and dirty with the fundamentals of barbell training, rowing, medicine balls, Olympic lifting and kettlebells.

Everyone was split into 4 groups and cycled through five areas over the course of the day, Olympic lifting with Don, Kettlebells with Andrew, barbell and dumbbell training with Matt and rowing, medicine balls and programming with Fiona and then the group gymnastics session.

Before lunch everyone was run through one of CrossFits “functional couplet workouts” and much sweating and swearing was observed!

After lunch it was time to swing, hang and fool around upside down as we invaded the gymnastics facility.  Even after a blast through 10 minutes of one of CrossFit’s benchmark workouts “Cindy” a number of people managed to achieve muscleups on the rings, including instructor and hand stand queen Fiona Muxlow!  If you are in Townsville or surrounding areas I suggest getting out to train with Fiona as she is an absolute mutant and easily one of Australia’s top trainers.

Speaking of top trainers our other interstate import Matt Swift (Crossfit Brisbane) did a superb job teaching the fundamentals of barbell and dumbbell training as well as cranking out the most difficult gymnastic moves with ease.  If you are in Brisbane Matt can take your training to the next level!

After the gymnastic session we wrapped up with the final two rotations of coaching and everyone headed home exhausted and in a severe state of information overload and the course instructors adjourned to plan the 2008 seminar and a full Crossfit Certification for 2008.

Keep an eye out for an announcement soon about the certification and in the meantime make sure you check out our program of other seminars all around Australia for 2008.
